BlackFly RC 2018 Summer Kickoff

The 3rd running of the annual BlackFly RC Summer Kickoff Race was held July 7, 2018. This event was held in St-Laurent NB on a well groomed clay track owned/managed by Stephane Doucet. Stephane is known for putting on a great event and this one was attended by 25 racers coming from around NB, Quebec, and PEI.

The track layout was created new for the event and the track was reported to have some challenging sections but a good flow for racing. The weather was perfect for the race. The day before there was a mild rain to dampen the track, but the day of the race the track dried and became quite dusty by the time of the finals.

Notable mention: Although there is no class for marshalling Jeremie Haché was marshall of the day! Several racers noted that his quick action was very helpfull and was a great example to other marshals.

1/10 2wd Buggy A-Main: LAPSVIDE0

TQ/2nd: David Jean, 1st: Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Dario Paoletti

2wd buggy had a good turnout with 9 entries.  The first lap shuffled the field with a lot of position changes, with Guillaume taking advantage to make a move from 3rd to 1st. Through the race David kept the pressure on and managed to regain the lead. As the buzzer went Dario got caught at the line to finish 3rd, while Guillaume managed to pass David for the lead on the last lap with David finishing 2nd. One notable racer was Serge Hache who quietly improved from 7th to 5th during the race.

1/10 2wd Stadium A-Main: LAPSVIDEO

TQ: Alex Rizi, 2nd: Dario Paoletti, 1st: Maxime Denis, 3rd: Yan Carbonnelle
2wd Stadium truck started out with a rough first lap. Alex fell from 1st to 3rd and then broke early in the race, leaving the podium open for other racers. Dario and Maxime would battle for 1st early in the race before Maxime was able to make the pass and keep the lead for 1st with Dario finishing 2nd. Yan was able to take advantage of the early first lap crashes and was able to move from 5th to 3rd to make the podium. A notable item was it was the first race for Kayden Vienneau and he showed good consistency for his first racing experience.

1/10 2wd SCT A-Main: LAPSVIDEO

2nd: Serge Hache, TQ/1st: Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Chris Flewelling

2wd SCT is a popular class at BlackFly, and they had the entries to run an A & B-Main.  At the start of the race Dario and Rejean were able to break away from the group and get a slight lead. Dario was able to keep that early lead to finish 1st. Rejean was running comfortably in 2nd until he made a small bobble right after the washboard section and the field was able to pass while he was marshalled and he wasn’t able to recover. Rejean had to settle for 4th, just missing on his first podium finish. Serge Hache was able to improve from 4th to finish 2nd, and Chris was able to recover from an early bobble to finish 3rd.

1/10 2wd SCT B-Main: LAPSVIDEO

1st: Zack Bernard, 2nd: Jonathan Comeau Duguay, 3rd: Bruno Hache

In the 2wd SCT B-M main, it was a fight between Jonathan and Bruno until last few laps where Bruno lost the lead to end up finishing 3rd. Jonathan held the lead until he hit a rock on last turn and got passed by Zack Bernard who improved his 4th place start to finish 1st and earn the bump-up to the A-Main. 2wd SCT welcomed a new racer, Paul Antony Fournier, and for his first time racing he was able to challenge for 3rd for quite a few laps.

1/10 4wd SCT A-Main: LAPS – VIDEO(not available)

2nd: Jeremie Hache, TQ/1st: Stephane Doucet, 3rd: Serge Hache

4wd SCT remains a popular class with enough entries to run a full A&B main. In the A-Main, Stephane took the lead starting from TQ, and was able to cruise to the finish without pressure when Dario had equipment failure and had to drop out of the race. Jeremie Haché took advantage and improved from his 3rd starting position to finish 2nd. George worked his way from the bump-up spot to 3rd by mid-race, but a few mistakes and some good driving by Bruno and Serge Haché made him drop to 5th where he finished. Racing was really tight between Bruno and Serge but Serge was able to take the 3rd position.

1/10 4wd SCT B-Main: LAPSVIDEO

1st: George Thompson, 2nd: Judy Wilson Noel, 3rd Guy Hache

In the 4wd SCT B-Main, Judy was on her way to win the bump-up but a mistake on the last corner sent her off the track, and that allowed George to take the win and bump-up to the A-Main while Judy settled for 2nd. Guy Haché raced really well in this one to finish 3rd. Kayden Vienneau, another young racer, was on his 1st racing experience.

1/8 Buggy A-Main: LAPSVIDEO

TQ/2nd: David Jean, 1st: Alex Rizi, 3rd: Donald Denis

1/8 buggy was the most popular class with the racers this year with the largest number of entries. The 1/8 buggy A-Main was really interesting race to watch! The top 3 racers battle for their spot on the podium. Alex Rizi was able to pass David jean to take the first while David settled for second and Donald finished 3rd. Not shown on the graph was a lot of position change between top 3 positions. Notable was Yannick Noel, who started 10th after winning the B-Main made his way to 8th.

1/8 Buggy B-Main: LAPS – VIDEO(not available)

1st: Yannick Noel, 2nd: Yan Carbonnelle, 3rd: George Thompson

In the B-Main, the race started with a series of crashes which changed the running order quite a bit. After an early crash Yannick Noel was able to recover and finish 1st and get the bump-up to the A-Main. The surprise of the race was Yan Carbonnelle, who improved from his 9th place start to finish 2nd. George Thompson had a consistent run, and after flirting with the 1st place position he finished 3rd.

1/8 Truggy A-Main: LAPSVIDEO

TQ/2nd: Donald Denis, 1st: Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Stephane Doucet

In 1/8 truggy, Chris Flewelling forgot to put his transponder in his truggy, but he actually finished 6th just after Serge Hache. Chris and Serge battled all race which made it very interesting. Stephane started 5th with no expectations to get a podium, but after a pile up on the 2nd lap, he was able to make the pass and was running in 3rd until he made the fastest lap of the day, and was able to take 2nd for a lap. That was until Donald Denis caught Stephane and made the pass for 2nd while Stephane was happy with 3rd. Rene Leblanc and Serge Hache had a great race fighting for position, and so did Rejean and Dave. George did not start because of mechanical problems
