2019 Cap-Pele Revolution Raceway – Summer Series #3

The 3rd race of the 6 race Cap-Pele Revolution Raceway series was held July 7th, 2019. The event was held on the sunday as torrential rain came down friday night and the track could not be ready for the race on the scheduled saturday morning. It was a good turnout with a full heat of all classes and enough for an A & B in 4wd SCT.

The track started wet with a good level of grip. As the day progressed the track dried and became a little slippery. The track was watered before the finals to give the racers the best surface to run on.

At the end of the race there were $60 in gift certificates from Freedom Hobbies, $250 in certificates from RCMart, and Tim Hortons and Subway provided by Revolution Raceway. The results of this race are added to the Overall Series Points.

2wd Buggy A-Main: RESULTS

1st: Gregg Lawton, 2nd: Mark McKinnon, 3rd: Jeremy Sherriff, TQ: Dario Paoletti

2wd Buggy had a smaller turnout than a typical raceday. Racer Shawn Hume from PEI made the journey to race at the track, and Jesse Bell brought out the ‘FrankenBuggy’ as a test.

2wd buggy can be a challenging race with the low grip track and the unfriendly doubles. At the start Dario lead the group through the first corner and over the hucka-bump section, but then he had a problem in the first double-double and fell to 3rd. Mark got a very clean start and jumped to 1st while Gregg held 2nd after having a rough first few corners. Mark and Gregg built a bit of a lead with some very clean running, until Gregg made a pass at the 2/3 point of the race. From that point the 2 cars ran about 1 second apart challenging for the win. Gregg would finish 1st and Mark 2nd.

3rd would also have a battle with 3 drivers fighting for the position. Dario would hold the 3rd spot for the first part of the race. A bad lap would let Gordon Mercer try a hand at 3rd. Gordon could not hold back Jeremy who found some grip in the final. Jeremy would make the pass and double-double his way to 3rd.

2wd SCT A-Main: RESULTS

1st(TQ): Jeremy Sherriff, 2nd: Shawn Hume, 3rd: Zack Bernard

2wd SCT was an entertaining race. Jeremy Sherriff had the setup for the day and he led the race from the tone to finish 1st.

The battle was for the remaining podium positions. The race started with a rough double-double section which shook up the lineup. When the dust settled we found that Zack Bernard had jumped from 5th to 2nd. That was short lived as Derek Bain would move into the 2nd spot with Zack falling to 3rd. Derek held the 2nd spot, but would have a horrible few laps that dropped him to 5th. Shawn, who had the worst of the starts and fell to last spot mid way through the 1st lap, worked his way back to 2nd where he finished strong. Zack would take advantage of Derek’s bad lap and move back up to take the 3rd and final spot on the podium.

4wd SCT A-Main: RESULTS

1st: Shane Foote, 2nd: Dario Peoletti, 3rd(TQ): Gregg Lawton

4wd SCT was an interesting race to say the least. At the start of the race Gregg had a bad first corner and dropped to 2nd with Shane taking a small lead. The next lap Shane would have trouble in the doubles and fall to 3rd letting Gregg re-take 1st and Gordon move into 2nd. Gregg worked up a good sized lead, but then he decided he could no longer do the double-double section for about 5 laps. After all the crashes Gregg fell to 4th while Shane and Gordon moved in to 1st and 2nd. Late in the race Gordon got bit by a bad lap and then fell to 4th, allowing Dario to move to 2nd and Gregg to recover to 3rd. Shane continued to have a good run and finish 1st.

Fun fact, the racers who started 5th – 10th finished in the exact order they started even though you see lots of racing action.

4wd SCT B-Main: RESULTS

1st: Zack Bernard, 2nd: William Muirhead, 3rd: Jopher Sarigumba

4wd SCT had enough racers for an A & B main. In the B-Main the top 3 would bump up to the A. At the start of the race Matt Leblanc would jump to the lead. He would run in the top 3 until he had an unfortunate breakage that took him out of the race. Cole Leblanc also had a rough race, with his motor backing off the first lap.

After Matt dropped out of the race, William and Zack would battle for the top spot. They would exchange 1st a few times, and when the race finished Zack would finish 1st, William finished 2nd, and Jopher would finish 3rd.

1/8 E-Buggy A-Main: RESULTS

1st(TQ): Shane Foote, 2nd: Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Mark McKinnon

1/8 e-Buggy is getting more popular each race, and this day there were 9 entries. At the start of the race Dario took the lead quickly from Shane, but trouble a few laps later dropped him to 3rd allowing Shane to regain 1st. Shane would have a good race and finish 1st. Mark McKinnon would work his way from his 4th qualifying spot into 2nd. He held the 2nd spot until a slow lap that let Dario get by for 2nd while Mark dropped to 3rd.

1/8 E-Truggy A-Main: RESULTS

1st: Derek Bain, 2nd: Chris Flewelling, 3rd: William Muirhead, TQ: Shane Foote

1/8 E-truggy had an unusual day. There was a lower than normal turnout in the class, and this gave the racers a chance to grab coveted podium spots and lots of series points. At the start of the race Shane jumped into 1st and was working on a large lead. Then out of nowhere Shane lost traction and flew off the track by the timing booth. The result of the crash was his truggy was unable to continue the race. This gave the remaining racers a chance at some 1st place points. Chris first jumped to the lead, but a lap later Derek would take the position and finish in 1st. Chris would then battle William for 2nd, and with 2 laps to go Chris would take the 2nd spot with William settling for 3rd.

Thank William for the podium photo … lol
