2018 – 418 Rumble – Quebec

The 418 Rumble was held at the 418 Raceway in Quebec City, Quebec from September 28-30. Two racers from Saint John, New Brunswick (Gregg Lawton and Jeremy Sherriff) made the trek to the premier indoor onroad facility to take part in the first trophy race put on by the host club. The 2 racers entered the Touring Car Spec and the Touring Car Mod classes from all the classes offered. The race attracted 25 racers with 45 car entries.

The event was broken into 3 days. Friday was all day practice for test/tuning from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Saturday had 4 qualifiers that ran from 10:00am-8:00pm, with a little celebration time after. On Sunday all mains had triple finals in racing that went from 10:00am-4:00pm. The full results for all classes can be found on LIVERC

The 418 Raceway is a member owned/operated facility where membership fees in the race club go toward rent and supplies for the facility and track. The surface is CRC black carpet laid on a very smooth and flat subfloor using the CRC Clik-Trak barrier system for the track layout. There is ample pit space for 30+ racers, and they have some room to expand for larger events. The driver stand is about 6 feet over the racing surface and large enough to comfortably hold 10-12 racers if needed. A video has been created to see the facility: 418 Raceway Track Walk video

1/10 TC Spec: A-Main – RESULTS

#1(TQ) Patrick St-Germain, #2 Yanick Belleville, #3 Jeremy Sherriff

Jeremy Sherriff had an excellent qualifying session and qualified 3rd into the A-main. After a dramatic triple a-Main he would defend his qualifying position and finish 3rd overall.

Main-1: LAPTIMES

In Main 1 Patrick St-Germain and Yanick Belleville got out to a great start and finished 1-2. Jeremy had a slow start with an early crash, but he was able to catch Jean-Yves Lebel and make a move on 3rd. After and early battle Jean-Yves was able to take 3rd while Jeremy took 4th.

Main-2: LAPTIMES

In Main 2,  Patrick again took and early lead to finish 1st and seal the overall top spot. There was a first turn pile-up that Jeremy got the worst of and he ended up dropping out of the race. Yanick was able to recover from a slow start to finish 2nd, and Fabio improved his start to finish 3rd.

Main-3: LAPTIMES

In Main-3 Patrick sat out the race after already sealing the first place for the class. This gave the remaining racers the chance to battle for the first place points to improve their standing. Early in the race Yanick had some trouble getting into the racing groove, and this allowed Jeremy to jump to the 1st place spot, which he was able to hold for the win. Andre Gemme worked his way through the group to finish a solid run in 2nd. Yanick was able to recover from his slow start to finish 3rd.

1/10 TC Spec: B-Main – RESULTS

#1 Gregg Lawton, #2 Mathew Pearson, #3 Carl St-Onge

Gregg Lawton improved consistently during qualifying but just missed the cut for the A-Main, and qualified BQ in the B-Main. Gregg was able to run consistently in the triple main, and with a solid main-3 finish he was able to defend his qualifying position and finish 1st overall.

Main-1: LAPTIMES

In Main-1 Gregg had a terrible start and fell from 1st to last in just a few laps. Carl St-Onge was able to take advantage and improved his starting position to finish 1st. Gregg was able to battle back through the group and with 9 laps left he was able to regain 3rd and challenge again for 2nd. He was able to get within 2 seconds of Carl, but settled for 2nd. Iannick Beauregard was able to improve on his 4th qualifier position to finish 3rd.

Main-2: LAPTIMES

Gregg was able to jump to a slight lead on the group and was running closely with Mike Maguire for over 1/2 the race. Gregg got an unfortunate body tuck late in the race and lost 2 positions. This allowed Matthew Pearson to get by for 1st. Gregg was able to make a late pass for 2nd, while Mike finish solidly in 3rd.

Main-3: LAPTIMES

In Main-3, the nerves were high and there was a very rough start to the race. Gregg was able to get away from the group with Matthew Pearson. Unfortunately, just a lap after getting the lead Matthew would have a mechanical failure and would drop out of the race. Gregg would assume the lead and finish solidly in 1st after lapping the field. Mike Maguire would improve on his start to finish 2nd. Iannick Beauregard would also improve to finish 3rd.

1/10 TC Mod: B-Main – RESULTS

#1 Fabio Fava, #2 Marc-andre Cote, #3 Gregg Lawton

Both Gregg and Jeremy qualified into the TC Mod B-Main after a tough qualifying session. After a very close finals the two were tied in points. The tie was then broken based on the best finish position in the 3 mains.

Main-1: LAPTIMES

In Main-1 Fabio Fava and Marc Andre Cote would lead from the start to finish 1st and 2nd. Gregg and Jeremy would battle for 3rd, with Jeremy making the pass late in the race and would hold on to the 3rd spot by 0.4 of a second in a nail biting finish.

Main-2: LAPTIMES

In Main-2 Fabio and Marc Andre again jumped to the lead and finished 1st and 2nd. Jeremy would have a slow start, but would battle Gregg for 3rd again. Jeremy would finish 3rd with a 0.1 second lead over Gregg in 4th.

Main-3: LAPTIMES

Main-3 would be a battle of attrition. Fabio would have a terrible start and eventually he would drop out of the race with mechanical failure. This bad start by Fabio allowed Marc Andre and Gregg to jump to a slight lead over Jeremy and Andre. At the 2/3 point of the race, Marc Andre would get into the corner of the sweeper leading on to the straight and ended his run for 1st. Gregg was there to assume the 1st place spot, and he was able to hold the spot to finish first, with Jeremy finishing 2nd and Andre finishing 3rd.
