2019 Cap-Pele Revolution Raceway – Summer Series #6 – Finale

The 6th and final race of the 2019 Cap-Pele Revolution Raceway offroad series was held Oct 5th, 2019. The race had a great turnout, and we celebrated all the new racers out this year with a small plaque for each. With the large turnout 2wd Buggy, 2wd SCT, and 4wd SCT all would have an A & B main for the finals.

The weather started a bit overcast with 11 degree temps, but the wind was very high in the morning and this had the racers running for shelter in their tents. By lunchtime the wind had died down to barely a breeze and it warmed up to about 18 degrees for a nice afternoon of racing. It had rained the night before and this left the track damp and a bit soft. By the time the finals ran the track was very rough with ruts forming everywhere to challenge the drivers.

With this being the final race of the series, George organized a huge prize lot with a prize for all attendees. Thanks to all the event sponsors who donated prizes including Freedom Hobbies, Great Hobbies, RcMart, RPM RC Products, Revolution Raceway, and Lighthouse Ink Works who created the plaques for the events.

George and Tara thanked everyone for coming to the series with a slice of cake, and the racers thanked the hosts for putting on the series where they can enjoy their hobby.

2wd Buggy A-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(tq): Kyle McKinnon, 2nd: Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Mark McKinnon

2wd buggy was a very full class for the final race of the year. It was a full field of 10 cars with 2 cars bumping up from he B-Main. At the tone the race began quite clean into the first few corners with Kyle holding the lead early in lap 1. Dario was able to make up time in the doubles and then was able to take the lead by the end of the first lap with Mark moving to 2nd and Kyle falling to 3rd. A few laps later Dario would have a bobble which allowed Kyle to move to first and Gregg to move to 2nd. Dario did recover briefly, but a bad lap dropped him to 5th. Mark would then move into third and hold it to the final laps, where Gordon passed Mark and moved to 3rd for a lap before falling to 4th on the last lap to allow Mark back to the 3rd spot. The order finished with Kyle safety in first, Gregg following in a comfortable 2nd, and Mark holding 3rd.

2wd Buggy B-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(bump): Glen Gorvatt, 2nd(bump): Boyd Newman, 3rd: Jesse Bell

In the 2wd buggy B-Main the top 2 finishers would bump to the A as a reward for a job well done. From the tone Glen would find his speed and he would easily win the race from the top spot on the grid.  The rest of the race would be a battle for 2nd and 3rd. Jopher jumped at the chance to take the 2nd bump spot, but would have a bad lap mid-race and fall to as low as 6th. Jesse would then have a chance at the 2nd spot, but a hard charging Boyd would take the 2nd spot leaving Jesse to settle for the 3rd spot on the podium.

2wd SCT A-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(tq): Kyle McKinnon, 2nd: George Thompson, 3rd: William Muirhead

2wd SCT had a great group of drivers, with enough for A&B. At the start of the A-Main there were a couple of small bobbles that seemed to pack the trucks together which allowed some racers to jump up positions while others fell back. One of the fellows who got the bad end of the stick was podium hopeful Glen Gorveatt, who qualified 2nd but fell to 7th on the first lap. He gained back to 4th but just ran out of time. On the plus side, George Thompson was able to jump into 1st and hold it a couple of laps. Kyle recovered and took 1st for himself, and George dropped back to 2nd. Another driver benefiting from the first lap rubbing was William, who was able to make gains and move into 3rd. Another unexpected gain was Jopher, who worked his way from his 8th bump up spot to finish solidly in 6th. When it was all said and done it was Kyle 1st, George running 2nd, and William finishing 3rd.

2wd SCT B-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(bump): Jopher Sarigumba, 2nd(bump): Jesse Bell, 3rd: Gabby Praught.

In the 2wd SCT B-Main the top 2 drivers would join their equals in the A-Main. At the tone Jesse would jump to the lead with his prototype mid-motor 2wd Slash. Jopher would recover from his first lap bobble and would pressure Jesse for the rest of the race. As soon as Jopher would get on the back bumper of Jesse, he would have a bobble and Jesse would again get a slight lead. This would happen at least 3-4 times during the race. On the final lap, only 3 corners from the finish, Jesse and Jopher both would tangle, get hung up on pipe, and then need marshaled. Jopher would get the best of the chaos and finish 1st with Jesse finishing closely inr 2nd. Gabby had a quiet race but would finish strong in 3rd.

4wd SCT A-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(tq): Gregg Lawton, 2nd: Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Shane Foote

4wd SCT is a very popular class at the Cap-Pele series, and today was no exception with an 11 truck A-Main. From the tone the field of trucks had a pretty good start, with Gregg, Dario and Shane holding their starting order for the first lap. 2nd lap Dario would have a rough time with the hucka-Bump section, and this would allow Shane to just get slightly ahead on the straight to take 2nd. Over the next few laps Shane and Dario would go back and forth trading the 2nd spot. Gregg would gain a small lead because of all the fighting for 2nd, but a bad lap ending in a rollover in the hucka-bump section around lap 5 would let Shane get right up to the front bumper of Gregg’s truck. Not wanting to loose the lead, Gregg put his head down and had a super consistent race after that point to finish in 1st. Dario was not giving up on this race and would charge by Shane to secure 2nd, but would run out of time to make a challenge for the lead. Shane would finish in 3rd on the lead lap. Reviewing the laps a racer who made the best gains was Glen Gorveatt, who started from his 10th place starting spot to finish 7th.

4wd SCT B-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(bump): Glen Gorveatt, 2nd(bump): Cole Leblanc, 3rd: Boyd Newman

The top 2 finishers of the 4wd SCT B-Main would bump up to the a-Main to continue their race day. From the tone Glen Gorveatt jumped to the lead and never let it go for the 1st bum spot to the A-Main. there would be a battle for the 2nd bump-spot, with Boyd Newman taking the initial spot, but Cole Leblanc was on a good run and made the pass at the half way point of the race and it stuck for the 2nd bump spot. Boyd had to settle for 3rd in this race. One notable item in this race was Gabby Praught, who qualified 6th but had electrical problems than held her back to finish 8th. The mechanic will be fixing the truck in the off season!

1/8 E-Buggy A-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st: Dario Paoletti, 2nd: Mark McKinnon, 3rd(tq): Stephane Doucet

1/8th E-Buggy continues to grow in popularity, and we see that with a full 10 car final. Dario saved the best for last in this race. From the tone he was able to get to the front just after the first set of doubles and he never looked back. He was running about 1 second a lap faster than the group and finished comfortably in the lead getting the bonus lap. The battle of this race was for the 2nd and 3rd place on the podium. There were 2 spots left and 3 racers challenging for them. First up was Shane, who had the 2nd spot early but after a bad lap he lost it to Stephane. Stephane was able to hold it only for a shot time, where a few bobbles and some hard driving by Mark lead to Mark taking the 2nd spot. Stephane would not give up, and after a brief battle with Shane for 3rd, he momentarily took 2nd back from Mark. Mark would not be denied 2nd spot, and he retook the spot on the next lap and would finish in 2nd position. After all the challenges for the top of the podium Stephane finished strong in 3rd, while Shane held 4th on the 11th lap. The last lap was exciting as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were hard on the throttle racing for the line. Worth watching the video for the final turn!

1/8 E-Truggy A-Main: RESULTSVIDEO

1st(tq): Stephane Doucet, 2nd: Shane Foote, 3rd: Chris Flewelling

By the time the 1/8 Truggy was run at the end of the day the track was completely blown out. We got to see how the suspension of the large 1/8 would soak up the bumps. Stephane had the hot setup for Truggy this race. Combine a hot setup with some excellent driving and you get a racer who takes the lead on lap one and never looks back to take the top spot on the podium. Shane would get hung up on the pipe early in the first lap, and that lost just enough space that Shane could not challenge for the lead and would finish safely in 2nd on the lead lap. There was a battle for 3rd brewing, with William taking 3rd for 1/2 the race, but then would have a bad lap and fall to 5th. Chris Flewelling would take advantage and secure the 3rd spot with consistent driving.
